The landscape between became a No-Man’s Land-a harsh landscape void of vegetation and filled with craters from relentless artillery bombardments. Trenches lined the French countryside with artillery and machine gun pillboxes fending off attack. Each side had dug themselves in to a point where mass assault was futile. ![]() In the Western Front, a stalemate had been met. However, one of the most frightening of the time, was the development of the Tank. ![]() Machine guns, barbed wire, mustard gas, airplanes, and more were developed and utilized throughout the conflict. The Great War witnessed some of the most impactful-and deadly-weapon advancements in the history of warfare.
